Therapy for Immigrant Families in Houston, Texas | Culturally Responsive Counseling

I am a first generation immigrant who has spent most of my life in a multigenerational home (grandparents, parents, and children). Through my lived experience, I know the unique challenges that impact immigrant families. Whether that is navigating the balance between individual needs and the family as a whole, respect for elders and respect for the younger generations, or challenges that come with generational norms that used to serve the family in the past but no longer seem to work in your current home.

Being a therapist means knowing that even if I am working with an individual, the relationships around them have a monumental impact on them. At times our families can be the relationships we find most painful. I work with families to provide a space where all parties feel heard and seen. I help family members work through past hurts and develop effective communication skills to improve their relationships and rebuild peace within their homes.

I provide telehealth therapy for families across Texas. I help individuals and families address identity conflicts, family stress, and the emotional impact of intergenerational expectations.

    • Immigrant families and families of immigrants seeking support navigating conflict, communication, or life transitions

    • Parents and adult children working through generational differences, expectations, and shifting roles

    • Families balancing cultural values with changing identities across generations

    • Family members experiencing ongoing tension, misunderstandings, or emotional distance

    • Families who want to stay connected while creating healthier ways of relating to one another

    • Individuals hoping to involve loved ones in therapy to better understand each other and improve communication

  • My approach to family therapy is collaborative, structured, and grounded in an understanding of how culture, migration, and generational experiences shape family dynamics.

Rather than focusing on one person as the problem, we look at the patterns within the family system—how each person’s experiences, roles, and expectations interact with one another. This includes exploring how communication styles developed, what has been left unspoken, and how past experiences may still be influencing present-day interactions.

In our work together, I help create a space where each person can feel heard without the conversation escalating. We slow down interactions, clarify misunderstandings, and begin to shift patterns in a way that feels more respectful and sustainable for everyone involved.

Family therapy is not about assigning blame or forcing agreement. It is about building understanding, improving communication, and finding ways to stay connected without repeating the same cycles of conflict.

    • Conversations that quickly turn into arguments, even when the topic seems small

    • Feeling misunderstood, unheard, or dismissed within your family

    • Ongoing tension between parents and adult children around expectations, independence, or life choices

    • Difficulty communicating needs without it leading to conflict, guilt, or withdrawal

    • Emotional distance, avoidance, or feeling like you are “walking on eggshells”

    • Pressure to maintain respect and harmony, even when something doesn’t feel right

    • Patterns that repeat across generations, but feel difficult to change

    • Wanting to stay connected as a family, but not knowing how to move forward differently
